My 2nd Solo Yes I am an ECE major flying airplanes. Flying alone, all by myself, free!

My First Pilot Headset

8/8/2004
I passed my check-ride today! Today I have become the first FAA Certified Private Pilot in the history of my family. I am now certified to fly any of my friends orfamily through all airspaces below 18,000 feet. The check-ride is basically the equivalent of the road-test to get your driver's license, except this is much more demanding and complex as the examiner makes you do all these maneuvers (such as steep turns while not losing more than 100 feet of altitute) and unconventional landing techniques (soft-field, short-field, cross-wind landings), and then try to get you lost but you must use all available navigation techniques to find your way to the destination and back. Before the check-ride I also passed the oral exam and a written test with a score of 97%.

I am happy to announce that I am officially a pilot now, I now have my student pilot certificate. I have been training since March 28th, and a new pilot was born on May 31st, 2004, when I did my first solo flight over Lockhart (50R) Airport. Ever since I have been doing solo flights around Austin International Aiport (AUS) and have learned to properly clear all the airspace over the radio in the vincinity, including the Class C airspace over Austin, TX.

Childhood dreams My instructor and I after my solo. Yes Kuangwei, you did a good job.

Here are some PIlot stories I have written about my first solo:

6/19/2004 This is my first time taking my whole family for flying fun! Since I have not yet taken my FAA exams to receive my full-fledged license, I was required to have my flight instructor in the plane even though he didn't even need to touch the controls.
